Junior Hockey

Junior Hockey resumes on Tuesday 8th September 2026, 6.15-7.15pm (please note the new time, day and location).

Welcome to Cliftonville Hockey Club’s Junior Hockey family, where passion for the game meets a fun, supportive, and active environment.

Our junior sessions are suitable for ages 4-13 and are dedicated to fostering a love for hockey while helping young players develop their skills, build confidence and make friends. Whether your child is picking up a stick for the very first time or looking to take their game to the next level, we provide the perfect platform for them to thrive.

What you and your child can expect at our training sessions:

• Fun-first approach: We believe kids learn best when they are having fun, so our sessions are packed with engaging activities.
• Skill development: Players will learn fundamental hockey skills, including stickwork, passing, shooting and movement off the ball.
• Expert coaching: Our passionate, qualified coaches are committed to providing safe, positive, and encouraging mentorship.
• Teamwork & sportsmanship: We emphasise cooperation, respect, and fair play both on and off the pitch.
• Inclusivity: Every child plays, progresses, and is valued, regardless of their starting ability.

Location

Due to the loss of our old pitch at SLC our new home for the next couple of seasons will be the astroturf pitch at Sir Roger Manwood School in Sandwich - a 20 min drive from our old home.

The pitch is on the opposite side to the main school entrance on St George’s Road. Use the postcode CT13 9LE.

The car park is on one side of the road, and the entrance to the sports fields and astroturf is on the other. Once you get there, walk down the drive and you’ll see the astroturf pitch at the opposite end.

Please note: there are no toilets at the astroturf pitch so please use the toilets at the Pavillion on your left hand side as you enter the sports field.

What to bring

For safety reasons, we ask that all players have a gumshield and shin-pads. A small number may be available to purchase at the pitch but please message ahead to check. 

Dress your child in appropriate sports wear for the weather. Woolly hats and gloves are advised for the colder months.  

We can loan a stick and advise on purchasing your own when the time is ready.

Please also bring water.

Cost

The first few sessions are free so come along and try it out!

After that, payments are made on our club membership app Teamo - information about signing up will be provided at the sessions. 

The costs are:

• £160 paid annually or monthly - this covers all sessions from September to June and includes participation in monthly tournaments against other clubs.
• PAYG - talk to us for more info on this.

Cancellations

Player safety is always our top priority. When severe weather hits we follow a strict evaluation procedure to decide whether sessions can safely go ahead. We closely monitor conditions throughout the day and will make a final decision by 5:00pm for our 6:15pm sessions. 

When cancelled sessions occur, we do our best to ‘make-up’ the session before the end of the term. Unfortunately no refunds are given on annual memberships in the event of a cancellation.

Fixtures

This year we’re hoping to set up a number of fixtures against other clubs throughout the year. These will occur on the 1st Sunday of every month (times TBC but likely late mornings). Locations will be confirmed as we get closer to each fixture but please put the dates in your diary and confirm your attendance in Teamo ASAP.
