So Cliftonville Women’s 2s had a very pleasant game against Canterbury Saturday. Knowing we only had a bare 11 meant the team had to play smart tactics and they did. With many players missing, regular players had to step into different positions, and as the game progressed they all showed great energy and tenacity. Our ship was steadied with the return of Elizabeth in goal, who pulled off some great saves. The attack and midfield worked their socks off creating chances, but sadly it was Canterbury who scored first, with Viles defence having minor blip marking, which Sally pointed out, and didn’t happen again! 1-0 down at half time, but the team were not perturbed. We knew with patience and keeping the passing we would score, and that’s exactly what happened. A strong run down the wing, with an accurate cross saw Chloe score a first time shot. We applied pressure until the final whistle, but we were happy with a point away to Canterbury. Special mentions to Kerry “Player-of-the-Match” Adams, for her availability and energy throughout the match, which was umpired brilliantly, and made the whole excursion a lot more enjoyable.
