Cox and Co. Fire Cliftonville to First Win of the Season
Cliftonville Men’s 1s played their first home game of the season, taking on Tunbridge Wells M2s with hopes of putting last week’s Canterbury loss behind them.
Ville came flying out the blocks, piling pressure on Tunbridge and pinning them deep in their own 23. Early circle penetrations showed promise, but the scoreboard stayed quiet. Tunbridge managed to push back, winning the first short corner of the game — much to Thomas’ frustration. His protests earned him a green card, but thankfully the corner was dealt with and Ville’s momentum resumed.
Just moments after his two-minute timeout, Thomas popped up at the top of the D, received a slick pass from Captain Mees, and calmly slotted it home to give Ville the lead. That set the tone, with top scorer Sebastian Cox adding two more before the break — one a clean strike from the top, the other a sharp deflection from the byline — stretching the lead to 3–0.
Fuelled by halftime blood orange slices, Ville came out hungry to build on their advantage while keeping things tight at the back. They did just that, with two well-worked short corner goals from Alex Cowell and Ned sealing the deal.
Final score: 5–0. A confident bounce-back win, and eyes now turn to next Saturday’s challenge.
