Cliftonville 3rd XI secured a gritty, hard-fought 1-0 victory on the road against K Sports this weekend. In a match defined by logistical hurdles and missed opportunities, the visitors showed immense character to bring all three points back home.

A bit of chaos before the whistle due to a navigational mishap that saw the goalkeeper and another teammate arrive at the wrong venue, Cliftonville were forced to start the match with 11 outfield players.

Without a keeper, the pressure was on the defensive unit to keep the circle watertight. To their credit, the team maintained a disciplined shape, neutralising the K Sports attack before they could test the "makeshift" defensive arrangement.

The decisive moment came on 25 minutes courtesy of a well-executed set piece. After Ville won a short corner, Ollie Todd injected to top of the D and was returned to him, and Todd showed great composure to turn the ball home, giving Cliftonville the lead.

For the remainder of the contest, Cliftonville was the superior side. The midfield controlled the tempo, and the backline remained rock solid.

However, the scoreline remained tighter than it perhaps should have been. While the build-up play was excellent, a lack of clinical finishing meant several gilt-edged chances went begging. It was a "nearly" day in front of goal where the final touch just wouldn't click, leaving the game on edge until the final whistle.

Final Verdict: A solid, professional performance. While the margin of victory was slim, the resilience shown during the opening chaotic minutes proves the team have the mental toughness to handle whatever the season throws at them.
