Coming off of two consecutive wins, Cliftonville faced a vast improved Blackheath team from the reverse fixture back in December at home. Today it was our turn to make the journey up the M2/A2 to their place. There was plenty of traffic 15 minutes before push back we had only 2 Ville players, luckily the cavalry soon arrived and as we were still waiting on one of the umpires it allowed us to have a proper warm up.
Ville started the more lively of the two sides and managed to grab the advantage when Edwin burst forward from right back and hit a well-placed diagonal ball into their area and found Simon who swept home convincingly into the corner of goal and their keeper could only watch.
Blackheath were awarded a dubious short corner, having played advantage and their player getting a shot away the umpire called it back for a penalty corner. From the resulting penalty corner our captain was judged to have broken the line early and was sent to the halfway line and the corner retaken which they managed to score from to make it 1 - 1.
Before the break the other Hooper, this time Dave managed to win the ball back off of their centre back and drove into the area, the first shot was saved but no mistake second time round and we went into the break 2-1 up.
Blackheath managed to score first in the second half to peg it back to 2-2.
Ville had been the better side in the second half and with ten minutes to go the ball broke through to Sidders. Ville had created a 2 on 1 from the break, Sidders neatly drew the defender in and slipped it to Perks who was arriving on the edge of the box and with one touch to get it into position rifled the ball home into the far corner to make it 3-2.
That is how it finished, another good result making it 3 wins out of 3 and only 2 games remaining of the season. We go again next week at home to Marden Russets. #uptheville
