Cliftonville Women’s 2s overcame a challenging start to claim a well-earned 2-1 victory against Blackheath & Elthamians.
With their goalkeeper arriving late, Ville began the match with 11 outfield players, forcing them into a deep defensive setup. Despite the unusual formation, they held firm, frustrating Blackheath’s attacks and keeping the game level.
Once their goalkeeper was in place, the game evened out, with both teams battling for control. As the first half progressed, Cliftonville grew into the contest, pushing forward and applying sustained pressure. Their efforts paid off when Tracy broke the deadlock with a well-taken goal in open play. The momentum stayed with Ville, and shortly after, Maddie doubled their lead, sending them into halftime with a 2-0 advantage.
The second half saw Blackheath fight back, looking to claw their way back into the game. Cliftonville defended resolutely, but with around 10 minutes remaining, Blackheath managed to pull a goal back, setting up a tense finale.
Despite the late pressure, Cliftonville stood strong, seeing out the match to claim a much-needed and hard-fought 2-1 victory.
